My magic performance at stage at Finance morale 2011

It is a pleasure to be invited to the Finance department morale. All because of my colleague who was invited but insist of me accompany him. Anyhow, I had a great time. Each team need to perform on stage, at least something beside plain singing. Majority in my team prefer to go for funny + magic stuff. I volunteer myself to perform some simple trick due to limited time we have. It is too short for a dance rehearsal.

The performance include a dance of “Dancing Good Good” and funny magic. Then follow with real magic performance. The flow will be a funny magician trying to challenge a real magician in a battle of the diamond club. 1st video as below is the 1st part of the performance.

As soon the 1st performance is done, my turn for some trick. A very simple trick but I hope it will enough to cheer the environment.

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho (aka. My Girlfriend Is a Nine-Tailed Fox)

Gu means nine. I seldom watch drama because I don’t like the feel of following a movie. I prefer it just end in 1 or 2 story. Not to mention Korean drama. I feel it is just boring and lots of crying. Somehow, there was one day when I was sitting in front of the TV eating dinner, and my dad switch to this channel airing a Korean drama. It is a Chinese (Mandarin) dub. The drama eventually attract me to watch until the end of the episode 1. It is a romantic comedy drama. Ignoring that, I didn’t bother to follow the drama. Few days later, when I was in front of the TV having my dinner, this drama airing at the same channel. Even I’m not following it, still my eye watching it till the end. This time, the feeling of want to watch further. Therefore, I follow the drama everyday and until one day, I miss one episode. I decide to download this drama and watch since I didn’t get to watch the first few episode.

The story about a guy name Dae-Woong accidentally releases a gumiho (nine tail fox) in some ancient painting. The story starts with comedy and love happens between both of them. Lee Seung Gi as Cha Dae-Woong and Shin Min Ah as Gumiho. In this drama, there was one pretty boy which actually looks gay starring No Min Woo as Park Dong Ju. He’s a trying so hard to separate both of them.

Beginning of the drama, it was so funny but when near to ending, sad things keep happening. I watch till tears about to drop. The drama is very nice. There are few OST which is very nice. Fox Rain (main theme), I Love You From Now On, and more.

This drama get 4 awards in 2010 SBS Drama Awards.

still don’t understand why the English title and Chinese title such a huge different of meaning. Beginning of the story, a guy suit up for a wedding. Looking at the apple, thinking of the past. Those years which had become memories. During his life of school, he met a girl. The smartest girl in his class and he was one of the worst student in the class. This guy keep doing something purposely just to get the girl attention. Things happens, he was ordered to sit in front of the girl. One day, happen an incident, the guy protect the girl making the girl felt for him. By helping the guy to improve in his study, they both had feeling for each other. All about the pony tail. The feeling is there but too bad the guy just a coward in love. After chasing the girl for so many years, and one day, because of an incident.. a day went heavy rain… they both quarrel. The guy act tough and that’s the end of the destiny of the couple. After such many years, the guy eventually regret on what he had done. If he could wish, if parallel world exist. He could made a promise that if they meet again, he will never let go.

The movie base on true story of a writer whose the main actor name after. A story of 5 guys and 2 girls. Good acting from both of them. The main actor actually did win best new actor in Golden Horses Award.

Emesene

I try Empathy, Pidgin, aMSN and Emesene. After all, I still choose Emesene. Good enough for me. To install, run the following command from terminal.

sudo apt-get install emesene

Once installation completed, several things I will do. Go to System > Preferences > Startup Applications, add emesene into startup program. For some people, their wireless connection may not connect immediately when boot up. This will cause connection error on emesene. What you can do is add a delay to the application startup.

Enter the command: bash -c "sleep ; emesene"

bash -c "sleep 30; emesene"

On the Emesene, go to Options > Plugins.

Check on CurrentSong > Configure. As for my case, I choose Rhythmbox as my music player. You can have Lastfm, Songbird, VLC and etc. Once done, just press on the music icon to enable or disable the current song.

Not only that, you can enable others features such as gmailNotify, Facebook and etc. All the plugin comes along by default and you can install extra plugin available online.

To configure gmailNotify, 1st enable the plugin and click on configure. For my case, I use Firefox to view my gmail.

Client to execute: firefox www.gmail.com

Username: my gmail email address

and of course my password

Once done, you will see the gmail notifier at the bottom of the emesene.

Top 10 applications to be install in my Ubuntu

I had been using Ubuntu for quite sometimes. I can't recall when but it was since 6.06LTS (Dapper Drake). It was introduce by my ex-colleague. Back then, Ubuntu was so limited features. I use to have dual boot, Windows XP and Ubuntu. After several release still dual boot. I can't let go Windows and most of the time I'm using Windows.

From time to time, my system always infected with virus. I purchase original Antivirus, yet still infected by virus. Time to time, Ubuntu getting mature and stable. More features arrive and getting user friendly. I decided to go for Ubuntu permanently. Being using it for a year plus and still happy using it. I'm currently using Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat). Although Ubuntu comes with lots of built-in applications, still I feel there are some applications which I prefer using.

1. Ubuntu Restricted Extras

Some applications we may need it but not bundle along with Ubuntu due to legal issues. Example mp3, flash, java, some codecs and fonts. Well, just bring up the terminal and enter:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

That will take care of it. Most of the audio and video format will be able to play using the built-in applications such as Rhythmbox, Totem Media Player and Firefox.

2. VLC

With ubuntu-restricted-extras installed, there won't be issue playing files from built-in Totem Media Player. If you have an Android device, VLC player will be a good application for you to remote control multimedia file. With Android and VLC player, you can just lay back and control your multimedia files remotely via wifi. You can get it from here, http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ or install from the Synaptic Package Manager.

3. Emesene

Although Ubuntu comes with Emphathy, but honestly I don't like it. I still prefer the old style MSN messenger. There are several application out there such as Pidgin and aMSN besides Emphathy but I still find Emesene suite me.

sudo apt-get install emesene

4. GIMP Image Editor

Another interesting application name GIMP. Almost similar to Adobe Photoshop. Of course can't beat Photoshop but something closer. I can edit my photo with levels, curve, shadow, smudge, blur and etc. An apps good enough to replace Photoshop for me.

Ubuntu Software Center (Applications > Ubuntu Software Center > search GIMP) or:

5. Dropbox

It is nice to go cloud. http://www.dropbox.com/. Since it's available in Linux, Windows, iPhone and Android. What else we need for cloud?

6. Teamviewer

Another cloud and cross platform application. Available in Linux, Windows, Android and iPhone. Sharing desktop and remote control over the WAN is not a problem anymore. http://www.teamviewer.com.

7. GNU Paint

Remember MSPaint? A simple paint application yet useful most of the time. Well, in Ubuntu you can get something similar name GNU Paint or Gpaint. Go to Ubuntu Software Center (Applications > Ubuntu Software Center > search GNU Paint).

8. VMware Player

Although VMware Player is free but it will require you to register an account in order to download. You can get it at http://www.vmware.com/products/player/.

Once the VMware Player is downloaded, just navigate to the folder from terminal. Run: sudo sh <filename>.bundle

sudo sh VMware-Player-3.1.3-324285.i386.bundle

After the installation completed, just execute it and create new virtual desktop. I installed Windows XP in the VMware Player.

I can execute or application that not able to run in linux environment. Although some people may suggest using Wine. However, there are still limitation. There are several features which is useful such as shared folder and Enter Unity.

9. Compiz Settings Manager

Fancy display and graphic effects will be one huge advantage compare to Windows. Showing off special effects from linux that Windows won't have. Go to Ubuntu Software Center and search for ccsm or run the following command from terminal:

sudo apt-get install ccsm

Yes you can tweak your own effects such as wobbly windows and rotate cube. I use to install and enable this effects but it just eat up my old laptop resources.

10. Dock

Desktop dock is one the most all time favorite. Most famous in Mac OSX. Windows and Linux start to copy. You can see it available in Alienware, Dell PC, and etc. Fancy enough and nice effects. I use to like it but system resources still a concern to me. There are plenty of tools out there but Avant Window Navigator is in my top list. https://launchpad.net/awn

Android Screencast

I always want to get a screen capture of my Android device to my PC. I found this application name screencast. It's use for Android application development. Although I don't developed application but it is useful for me to capture screen shot.

1. Go to this LINK and download the installer for SDK. I downloaded the exe.

2. If there are no Java JDK installed, it will prompt you to do so or you can download it from HERE. Get the JDK installed in your PC. Then install the Android SDK installer.

3. Download the android screencast file here HERE and drop to the Android SDK Manager folder.

4. Make sure the HTC sync driver is installed. Do not launch the HTC sync application, we just need the driver.

5. Connect the HTC and select HTC sync mode.

6. Launch the SDK Manager. Ignore any prompt. Go to available packages, install the Android SDK Platform-tools, revision 3. Once completed, close this Android SDK manager.

7. Launch command prompt, navigate to the SDK Manager installation folder. Navigate to the folder platform-tools. Enter the command adb.exe devices. This is to make sure the Android device is properly mount.

8. Navigate to the location that you place your androidscreencast.jnlp. Launch it.

Done, it is just that simple. Basically you will able to see the screen only. Anything that you do on your phone will be able to project to the PC. To control the device, you will need to root your phone.

1. Angry birds

This is a must application to be installed in my Android. Listen to the music and the laughing sound from the birds. It just keep my day entertaining. Well, the Angry bird I downloaded for my Android is a full version. It does show as HTC features apps in the HTC Hub. Not sure about others brand.

2. Papago! X5

I got this apps from my colleague. It is a crack version with latest full MalFreeMaps. It will be pointless for an Android that comes with GPS but unable to use GPS.

3.Facebook for Android

I believe everyone own an Android may have a Facebook account. At least this is the apps that can keep you posted.

4. Youtube for Android

This will make viewing youtube video better. It can let you watch facebook youtube post or any link into native view.

5. Teamviewer

Teamviewer is one of my most favorite application. It is a cross platform desktop sharing. I can remote or share my desktop from Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android. I can even have a portable version in my pendrive. It works on almost any kind of network and most important is free.

7. Advanced Task Killer

Instead of installing Task Killer, advanced task killer is better in the sense of selecting the task to be killed in one shot.

8. Dropbox

I have dropbox in my Windows PC, I have it in my Linux laptop, must not miss that in my Android. I can get all my files sync across all platform. Nice to play cloud.

9. VLC remote / MPC remote / Gmote

Either one, but I have 3 of them in. Remotely control over my laptop or desktop when I'm watching movie. I can browse my drive from my phone, play it, pause, forward, backward, skip next, fullscreen, take snapshot, mouse control, keyboard and all just on the phone.

10. Flip - Silent

How easy if you are in the meeting that you don't have to remember to turn your phone to silent. Just flip your phone screen facing down and that's it, your phone is silent.

There are still bunch of nice application out there such as compass, leveler, meebo, barcode scanner, and etc. I will be very tired downloading and playing with the apps.

Laggy HTC Desire HD

I have a HTC Desire HD running on Android 2.2 (Froyo). The day I receive this device, I was so enjoy playing with it. Sleep with it, eat with it, shit with it. There are so many features and free apps I can play with but there are one problem. Laggy.

The navigation and zooming are jerking. If I on mobile network or wifi, it will start killing the device. Not to mention Angry bird!! Freezing. This model suppose to be a high end device but super laggy. Paying RM2150 just for a laggy device? I don't see any problem in others phone such as LG and Samsung. Doesn't matter it is RM600 to RM2000.

I thought it was visual issue, I turn off all the fancy graphic and animated wallpaper. Still lagging.

Installed task killer, kill all task, stop all services from running. Still lagging. Memory issue? Not really, there are 300MB+ free.

Even each reboot, it doesn't makes any different. After 2 weeks, I'm starting to get frustrated. RM2K for this kind of device?

I bring up my firefox from my laptop, go to Google and start searching for solution. Found several forumer mention about this issue and eventually the problem can be fixed. It was due to /INIT process running at anything between 70% – 100%. One user eventually try to turn on the USB Debugging mode and fixes the problem.

It as simple as navigate to menu > settings > applications > development > select USB Debugging.

After 2 vibration feedback from the phone, the phone start responding well. It does fix the problem. I try turn on all the previously disabled animations and graphics. Still as smooth as taufu. I don't know why HTC didn't fix this bug. For whatever reason, as long as it works smooth, it's fix the problem for now. Happy again.

Spice Market Cafe Buffet Dinner

Spice Market Cafe located in Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Batu Ferringhi. The interior design are so nice and beautiful.

Inside the lobby while waiting for the cafe to open.

Upon entrance, both site had lots of spices display. It is also open for sale.

Indian and Malay corner. Have several type of curry, rice, lamb and chicken tandori, satay and etc.

Western style. Have pasta, spaghetti, lasagna, grill fish, beef and etc.

Chinese corner. Fried rice, prawn, vege, soup, noodles and etc. I guess Malaysian chinese don’t really prefer to eat these but foreigner do.

Cold charcoal, salad, bread and Japanese corner. Had sashimi such as salmon, tuna, white tuna, abalone, octopus, sushi and etc. Cold charcoal such as slipper lobster, prawn, yabbies, oyster, fruits but not really nice as the seafood too cold.

Dessert corner had lots and lots of cakes. Cheese cakes, tiramisu, and etc. We can eat from the cold storage till the jar. Also had ice kacang, fruits, and etc.

1st round, Enoki soup. 2nd round, Indian cuisine.

3rd round, sashimi. 4th round, chinese meet western.

5th round, cold charcoal. 6th round, chinese herbal soup.

Then too busy eating for dessert. Forgot to take picture. Dessert I had taken 5 rounds and still unable to test every single one. Too much dessert. For cakes itself can make you full. That is impossible to try every single dessert unless we don’t try other food. Spice market buffet is worthy the price as we pay for buy 2 free 1 promotion. After divide, it cost around RM80 per person. Really nice buffet. I will be back next time.

Streamyx Wifi@Home

Does really Streamyx wireless modem good enough for normal home use? Let’s have a look into it.

Inside it contains manual, LAN cable, splitter, power adapter, modem, 2 phone cable, installation CD and a warranty card.

After plug in all the necessary cables into position, we will able to see the light on “Power” will on. The “WLAN” light showing the wireless is currently turn on. If we turn off the wireless in the modem settings, this light will went off. If the “DSL” light is on and stable, it shows that the phone line is ready to be configured for internet. “Internet” light means the connection to internet is establish. “Ethernet” light showing there is a LAN cable plug in to the modem to a PC, router, switch and etc.

If you had a wireless PC, you can connect to the modem by searching for the available wireless signal. The default SSID for this modem is “Streamyx Mobility” and there is no security encryption enabled. You can also use LAN cable to connect to the modem. Usually what I will do is to plug in everything, search for the wireless network on my PC, look for SSID “Streamyx Mobility” and connect to it. Once connection establish, go to browser, type in 192.168.1.1 and enter.

On manual, it will show username: tmuser, password: tmuser. However, this account only had limited access. I always prefer to login with username": tmadmin, password: tmadmin.

Under the “Smart config”, we can directly key in the Streamyx ID and password. Hit on “Save/Reboot” and we are good to go to internet. Uncheck the “Enable Wireless” if you prefer to use its as a modem only. We always can change the SSID and set the network key.

This modem also allow us to change perform port forwarding. However, it is call as “Virtual Servers” under “Advanced Setup” > “NAT”.

Some user may prefer to hide the SSID. The option is available under “Wireless” as well. This modem also allow user to have multiple SSID such as Guest which able to isolate the sharing local network. Usually this happens to be useful for small office or prefer to share wireless to others.

If you feel that WEP security is not secure enough, there are others type of Network Authentication available under the “Security”. I always prefer to use WPA encryption.

We also can create MAC address filtering under “MAC Filter” to allow certain PC to have access to the internet and LAN if the MAC address is allowed. There are various function such as wireless bridge setup, change channel, speed, frequency of wireless and etc. User also can choose to filter IP address, block certain address and IP at certain time or certain IP and etc under “Advanced Setup”. I feel that this modem had most of the common features in others branded modem. If we are comparing on stability and performance of this modem, errrrr I wouldn’t say it is bad nor good. It is usable for normal home user.

Blackberry Bold 9000

Blackberry box, whole box black in color and no fancy drawing or logo.

As usual, inside contain manual, CD drivers and some stuff such as charger, USB cable and headset. The good thing is the charger comes with universal adapter which you can change the socket from the adapter to fit the country power socket.

It comes with a scroll ball in the middle. Very sensitive and smooth. Feel comfortable with it and not like my 1st expression on it that the scroll ball might be hard to get use.

It comes with a mini USB port for charging and for data transfer and normal audio port. Quite convenience as it use universal port where we can get the cable from shops.

The back really looks ugly. It comes with leather skin and looks very old fashion. The camera come with flash as well but of course not a xenon flash.

Blackberry is good enough for working environment. Not too fancy, comes with security features, and had ability to install applications such as Windows Live Messenger, Google Apps, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Messenger and etc. However, if ask me would I spend money on this? I will definitely say NO. Comparing to IPhone? Can’t compare, I will go for IPhone of course.

Wimax Desktop

Went to Prangin Mall for shopping, saw broadband fair outside the mall. After some shopping, proceed to have a look on P1 Wimax booth. The salesman told me wimax is powerful, superfast, click on YouTube video, before it play already finish the loading. I told him I stay floor 18th and also located at the border of the wimax coverage. He told me no problem, floor 25th also can receive and stable. Ask me if have existing broadband line, subscribe potong package and will get 1 month cooling period and free 1 month. Means will get 2 months free before start paying. Only will need to pay RM100 now, collect modem now, and activate 3 hours later.

The LAN cable quite interesting and unique. A flat type rather than round type.

So simple, just plug and play. Plug in power cord, turn on the power and it will start connecting. Red light on top showing the signal is weak.

Try so hard to adjust here and adjust there, place as nearest to house window, and finally get orange light. Try so hard and still unable to get green light. Orange means average signal, and green means good. I guess there won’t be possible for green at floor 18th and at the border of coverage. The modem instead looks very nice.

Follow the instruction in the manual and login to the modem access. Check some configuration. Had almost all basic settings that available in wireless modem.

Tested the speed at speedtest.net, it goes up to 1.60Mbps. Not bad but the speed is random and unstable. It can goes from range 0.80Mbps – 1.6Mbps. Try to launch torrent, able to goes up to 147.6kB/s. This is consider great as no capping or etc from the P1.

On the 2nd day, it was still such awesome. At night it rain, I had to close my house window so that rain will splash into my living hall. What the!!, the light on the modem turn red. Check at my PC, no signal to internet. Open the window, tadda!! Signal is back. Close the window again, tadda!! Signal gone. Magic.. This show do not close your window when rain if you need to go internet.

On the 3rd day, check at my account status at P1 site, it show I had left 13GB usage available only before they cap my speed down to 60%. I had stop download after that.

On the 4th day, try to get online, line keep drop. Try to reboot the modem and adjust till I able to get orange light on the modem. Line still drop, live messenger dc, loading YouTube slow, VPN to office dropped, and page loading always stuck. Totally different from 1st and 2nd day. Try to run a ping to couple of website include P1 site, all giving same results.

Try run test at speedtest.net and it showing upload test error. Try few times and still the same issue.

Finally able to get a result, showing 0.95Mb/s download and upload 0.06Mb/s. What the!! I off all application in my PC still having same issue.

Try using P1 speedometer, even worst. Stuck at uploading page. Try few times still the same. Is it wimax only good for download and not good for upload?

The next day, I bring the modem to the P1 office at Queensbay. The receptionist told me that they do not support high rise building. My house at the border of coverage and high rise building, that’s why signal is not strong. Then what to wait, ask for refund since still under cooling period. After return the modem, checking all in good condition, fill up some form. Then the receptionist told me the process will take 45 working days and they will send me a cheque of RM100. What the!!! 45 WORKING DAYS!!!

Wimax Wiggy

Potong, potong, potong.

Had a P1 Wimax Wiggy for testing. The wiggy size is half of Sony Ericsson W580i.

It is plug and play. A few seconds after I plug in, the red line will on. Then it will prompt for installation.

The prompt actually comes from the wiggy it self.

Once the installation done, it will continue to pop up a small window trying to connect to available wimax. Too bad the connection is very weak, I had to sit in open area or near to house window in order to get connection. If stay inside room, it will show unavailable service.

Once it is connected, the red light will turn to blue. Connection pretty slow for wiggy. Test download speed at speedtest.net, only showing 0.80Mbps instead of best effort 10Mb… Not even 10%.

Chin Yen birthday

We had about 8 person celebrating Chin Yen birthday. It was a last minute decision but still good. The worst thing is 8 person going with 5 cars. No wonder traffic jam as society nowadays didn’t know what is car pool.

This cake bought by YKK. Non of us understand what he wrote on top of the cake. Seems like a encryption code. Up 156 OCY. We only understand OCY stands for initial name of the birthday boy. The Up156 means Sang Yat Fai Lok means Happy Birthday in Cantonese. Up in mandarin is Sang, 1 in Cantonese is Yat, 5 in English is Five, 6 in Cantonese is Lok.

Handmade recycle lamp

Follow the concept of shoji lamp, I had made a lamp which is easy to be done and cheap. The material is only a wood I found somewhere in my house, bulb holder, plug, used cable, bamboo satay stick, bulb and two used spoiled CD.

I saw the wood into a smaller piece that only able to fit the bulb holder and sand it.

Then measure and fold an A4 paper so it fits the width and length of the wood.

Then I glue the stick accordingly and it will look like this.

I fold it letting the stick at outside then glue the join together.

Then I make a small hole letting the wire to go through. Then stick the CD to the wood and the wood to the bulb holder.

The box will go in exactly the wood and hold it. Then it is time to try out.

Tadaa!! It’s done and working. Pretty nice too as the design is simple.

Handmade Japanese Shoji lamp

I browse through the internet and found a website name instructable.com. I found a lamp that pretty nice. It use Japanese shoji style to create a DIY lamp. So I try to make on my self too.

I use tracing paper, bamboo satay stick, some electronic equipment. The wood I do not know for what purpose, I just take it picture for fun.

Then I start with measuring the stick. I align it this way so that it will had rectangular shape and not square.

Then I measure the stick for the horizontal and vertical for the inside the square. I took 70% of the original length and cut it into sizes.

So it will looks like this. 4 different length of stick.

Then I glue the join with glue gun. I will suggest use UHU because glue gun is far too hard to control.

Then I stick the frame to the tracing paper which I had cut it into sizes.

It almost done with 4 angle. It will look something like this.

I perform the wiring for the electric parts.

Then stick the bulb holder to the plastic plate I found in my house.

Tadaa!! It done and able to use. Pretty nice with the light and design.

Yatta!!! I win a Cathay Cineplex contest

Usually I will just empty my junk mail without take a glimpse look at it. However, today I feel kind of want to take a look. I open my junk mail, take a rough view. It was about 200 plus of junk mail. I didn’t open the mail but just take a glimpse look on the title and sender then delete it. Suddenly I saw an email send by Cathay Cineplex. I open the email and with surprise I realize I just win a contest. A contest from Cathay Cineplex which I participate couple of weeks ago.

Thinking it might be scam or something similar but look properly, it was for real.

So I decided to print this out and proceed to Cathay Cineplex. I pass my photocopy IC and this email print out to the ticket counter. The person face feel weird and proceed to the office. After a moment, an Indian guy ask me to sign a document and ask me to wait.

Then suddenly a pretty girl age around 22+ come to me and say congratulation and pass me an envelop. I look at her tag and notice she is a manager.

Then I open it up and found 1 complimentary pass for 2 admit and a coffin notebook.

DAP Victory Dinner

DAP held 1000+ table of dinner at Han Chiang field on 28th November 2008. The dinner suppose to start at 8:00pm but we arrive early. The traffic totally jam. Imagine 10,000+ headcounts of people cramp in this place at this moment.

The ticket consist of RM300, RM1,000 and RM5,000 per table. Each table contain of 10 person max. I’m taking on RM1,000 per table. The purpose of this dinner is for fund raising aiming to raise RM500,000 for the DAP new headquarters which expected to cost about RM3million.

I was on table 0034. Wiping my eating utensil, can’t wait for the food to arrive.

There is three type of drinks, strawberry, Sarsi and mineral water. I don’t like carbonate drinks so mineral water is my choice.

The dinner start at approximately 8.30pm. The first menu is 4 seasons.

The second menu is chicken herbal soup, omg, I forgot to take picture of that. Then follow by third menu is the shark fin soup. Yum yum.

Then follow by mushroom vegetables which is one of the must have dishes in dinner. You may able to see this dishes appear in all the wedding dinner as well and some may have abalone.

The fourth menu is the steam prawn.

After the prawn, follow by steam fish.

When the lotus leave fried rice arrived, we know this is the second last menu of the day. So we started to eat and finish this to full our stomach. This is what it was left.

Then the last menu of the day, ice lychee jelly as the dessert.

Motion detector (2006)

This was a video recorded about 2 years ago during our Uni life. We had a group project which required us to program a software that will need to works with the robot arm. So we figure out of using web cam as a motion detector. We were the only group that program motion detector.

The moment the web cam detected a changes of motion, it will signal the robot arm to move and pick up the tissue. The cardboard to hold the drop down of tissue was my idea. Yea, it look worst. ><. It was funny when the program didn't go through very well. In the video, the person who drop the tissue packet on the conveyor belt was me. The person who wear the dark blue watch was also me. There were various part where I keep picking up the tissue. Then the person who record this video and the voice that talk all the time was Teck Kheng. There ware couple of part where a hand try to cover the web cam so that the robot arm will response to it was Wah Keong. ><

Tai Yaik's Birthday

This is the 1st time we ever celebrate birthday with Tai Yaik or can be say we 1st time celebrate birthday among our self. Since we working, we seldom organize gathering. So this could be one of the opportunity to held a gathering. After a bunch of email communication, we decided to buy him a wallet and a cake. We also decide to held it at Greenlane McD which the location is at the middle among all of our houses.

As soon as I reach there, I order McD and had my dinner. Then we bring out the cake and start celebrating.

After singing birthday song and some wishes, we eat the cake. The cake is not bad but unfortunately I'm so full after take the fillet-o-fish set. So I ate only a small part. Funny thing is Tai Yaik birthday but the cake is words is facing me. Well, that makes me able to capture the words facing me.

Then we present the wallet to Tai Yaik. The wallet purchase from Queensbay HOL. What's next? Magic again. I perform couple of magic to them just for entertainment. Then most of them going back with unsatisfied mood as they were trying to figure out how my tricks work. ><

My best friend's wedding - part 2 (Dinner)

After walking around Anson town, we are so tired and the weather is not friendly enough. We went back to hotel and rest. Decide to sleep but Wah Keong suddenly call me and mention he at the hotel lobby. He fetch his sisters to hair saloon for hair dressing preparing for tonight dinner. So he want to take a break at our hotel room. We are chatting and I perform some magic just for entertainment.

The dinner start at 6pm, we had to get ready at 5pm and start our drive to the restaurant which took us 30 minutes. The restaurant had no air-con but lucky the area is not so hot. Unlike KL and Penang which consist more building than flora. Unexpectedly, Teluk Intan dinner are so sharp. Around 80% of the seat is full with guest at 6pm. Around 6.30pm, the dinner start. Unlike KL and Penang people, dinner state 7pm sharp but start at 8.30pm due to super over late comerssss.

The 1st dish such a surprise. It was so big place. We are so hungry and eat fiesta started. Our table only has 9/10 seated. I eat all I can. The food was so delicious. As I busy eating, I forgot to take pictures for all the dishes.

There are people singing on the stage, some are very good and some sing like choked parrot. I drink couple glass of beers. Half way of the dinner, 4 of our table mate leave because they need to drive back to KL and they are working on the next following day. So... 5 of us have to finish the rest of the dishes. Of course we can't.

Finally, we are over full. There are still lots of prawns left over. The last dish which is a dessert comes with ice-cream!! Yeah. All of the wedding I went, this is the one that give ice-cream as dessert. Yum yum. I was so full and very satisfied with the food.

My best friend's wedding - part 1

Finally, I able to obtain some picture. There were still plenty of picture haven't send to me yet. I started my journey with my friend Tai Yaik from Penang around 11am. After around 4 hours of driving, finally we reach Anson town and check in to Hotel Anson. After that, we went for lunch somewhere in Anson. Then we back to hotel, sit in the room and wait for another friend Teck Kheng and his girl friend. While waiting, I perform some magic tricks to Tai Yaik. Then we watch some movie using my laptop.

At last Teck Kheng arrive with his girl friend and check in. We then get ready and went for to Wah Keong house. Chat, eat, drink and see some wedding picture!!

The next day, we wake up at 7am and get ready to Wah Keong house. We play, jokes and chat. From left Tai Yaik, Kee Han, Wah Keong & Suh Ching, Teck Kheng & Jocelyn, and the most right is me. ^^

Then we take our lunch at Wah Keong house. After that, we went back to hotel. This time Kee Han follow us. We went for shopping around Anson town and bought some biscuits. We went to Menara Condong aka Malaysia version Leaning Tower of Pisa. Seriously it was not straight and not because the way I hold my camera.

Water tank in the tower at the highest floor. According to the theory, because of the soft ground the tower were build on, and also the weight of the water tank on top of the tower, it cause the tower to lean to aside. My best friend's wedding - invitation

Two months ago, I'd received the invitation from Wah Keong to his wedding dinner at Teluk Intan on 28th September 2008. So close to Hari Raya. At first, I taught it was a joke but it was for real. Feeling so happy for him. Couple of weeks later, I'd received an official wedding invitation card. The invitation card was stunning, it was so nice. Simple and nice. I like the design a lot. On the front cover, there is a dragon and phoenix logo. Even the envelope had design on it.

On the first page, it was two cute drawing of a married couple with the name of my friend Wah Keong and his wife Suh Ching.

In the middle page, the layout is awesome. Very neat and nice.

At the last page, there is a map shown the route to the restaurant. This is totally great.

I'd shown the invitation card to my gf and she really likes the design. Well, I like it too. As I like simple and nice design rather than too fancy design. The shape of the card is not square but rectangle shape. Nowadays the LCD all in widescreen style which is nice, what else looks better than widescreen shape card.

I guess I have an idea on what to choose for my future wedding invitation card.

My best friend’s wedding

I still remember the 1^st year I entered into Uni life. For the whole orientation week, I didn't have a single friend. I eat alone, sit alone and Due to language barrier, I can't even speak Mandarin. Well, I'm English educated. Do not know how to communicate. I still remember after the orientation, I was line up to register courses. Then suddenly, there was a guy who name Wah Keong say "Hi" to me. He told me we were in same hostel, asked me from which state I'm from. He spoke in English with me. After some conversation, we realize that we can communicate in Hokkien. Although the Hokkien slangs were different between us due to different origin but at least we are able to communicate with friendly way.

Then standing behind him was another guy name Teck Kheng. He introduces both of us as an icebreaker. Hmm… this guy Teck Kheng doesn't seem to be friendly with me. (But after knew him for sometimes, he was is a nice guy). Then when back to hostel, he introduces me to his roommate name Ah Beng. Then comes Onnie the crocodile hunter, Kee Han and Choong Hong. We were talking and get along after that. Sooner, I get to be friend with all of them. We share the same interested that was Warcraft III.

Wah Keong is such a lazy person when he comes to read novel. He will just stick to his computer and won't go anywhere else. I still remember when I'm sick, he fetch me to clinic. Sometimes he help me "da bao" food, follow me to eat supper, fetch me to KTM station and more. He is going to marry this end of September 2008. I am thinking maybe I can give him an Ang Pow with RM___.88. I like figure number 8 as in Cantonese it means prosperity. With the weird figure end with 88 cents, I wonder how to pack it into Ang Pow so it won't look like a sack of coin in there.

Finally, I figure out to stick it at my old poker card as the picture below. It does look lame and funny.

How did I stick it to the card? Watch the video and you will see how I stick the coin on the card. Strictly no video editing or post production. Just a small performance for my best friend's wedding.

Google internet domination

I still remember the day when I started to use Mozilla browser. It was great as it's contain tabbed function. Sooner, Mozilla Firefox were launch. More important, it is free and user friendly. No such things as windows genuine validation and bla bla bla. As for Google, we know that they has the best search engine ever exist and their all others products had the most user friendly. Most important it is free.

Now, Google launch it new internet browser call Google Chrome. As it was still in beta, nothing much we can demand for. The 1st thing after downloading the installer wasn't actually download the installer. It was only a download client. Something similiar to yahoo messenger and live messenger. Not the usual way it happens with firefox installer.

After the installation completed, I launch the browser and suprisingly it doesn't had any toolbar. The tabbed is on top of the toolbar. The address bar perform more than just an ordinary address bar. It had embed the real time Google search. What can we expect from a Google product.

The interface is simple and nice. It blocked almost all the pops-ups. Even the pops-ups that I need, it does block it as well. OMG!! The thing that I like about Google Chrome is that the tabs simply can rearrange by dragging it to any desired location and the best is I can actually drag the tabs out and turn them into separate windows. I can even drag any separate windows back to the desired tab. Another interesting stuff is that each tab operates in separate process. It was not error but were program by Google this way. In this way, it will eliminates the entire browser from crashing when one of the individual tab face error.

Beside this, it can actually import all data include bookmarks, saved forms & password, history from Internet Explorer or Firefox. Another best thing that my girl friend like about is the Incognito mode. It allows a person to browse in stealth mode which means webpages that being open and files downloaded won't be logged in the browsing and download histories; all new cookies are deleted after the browser is closed.

There are still problem accessing certain web pages such as Hotmail. It will not able to had the auto reading pane enabled which required me to view my Hotmail using classic view. Some javascript doesn't work pretty well.

When I was browsing through my friend lynx blog, there was one post. It was about this software call PortableApps.com. This software can carry your favorite computer programs along with all of your bookmarks, settings, email and more with you. Use them on any Windows computer. All without leaving any personal data behind. Is it so true?

More important, it is free and contains no spyware. There are no advertisements. It isn't a limited or trial version. There is no additional hardware or software to buy. You don't even have to give out your email address. It's 100% free to use, free to copy and free to share. More, it was install and fit into thumb drive, ipod, external drive, portable device and etc. It can be use at any PC hardware as it was an open source software. This can't be true. I can change the desktop wallpaper into my favorite wallpaper once I plug in my thumb drive. Upon removal, it will revert back to it's original wallpaper. You can also use photo editor, music editor, play any format of video and more at any PC. Why I didn't realize this software when I was in University life as this could be very convenience as we use to roaming around in the computer lab and library. If feeling to upgrade the thumb drive, simply copy the whole folder over to the new thumb drive and it will work. This is unbelievable. It is totally portable.

My new laptop

I had just bought a new laptop from Penang PC fair August 2008. Thinking of getting either Toshiba or HP compaq laptop. After couple of hours rounding PC fair and comparing, end up purchase HP compaq V3839TU from SNS Network. All others shop provide the same price with roughly same price of free gift. Hmmm, not many cables. Since I didn't play game, that is why I always prefer laptop than desktop. Portable, less space needed and less cables.

Dell Studio Hybrid Desktop are new small form factor desktop CPU release by Dell. It had small stylish design with color choice, ultra compact using Intel mobile technology, and Dell’s greenest consumer desktop. However, the price is a bit costly with the cheapest you can get is RM 2,899. At this price range, perhaps we can get a laptop about the same price. But for some people will prefer to go for desktop.

The designs were nice and come with variety color, just like Dell Studio laptop and Dell Inspiron laptop. Suitable for a good display and space saving. Such a small and concept design CPU will be a nice appearance if place on top of table suit from home to office. However, don't demand too much on advance gaming and graphic application for this hybrid desktop as the graphic card were only Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 3100. As for office and home application, it is still more than enough. As for space saving, it could be the best among desktop.

Is it really such a small notebook enough for our purposes. Of course not include gaming purposes. Due to it portable and small size, does it really such worth buying?

The term netbook was introduced by Intel in February 2008 to describe a category of small-sized, low-cost, light weight, lean function subnotebooks optimized for Internet access and core computing functions (e.g., word processing.) Below is the size of a Intel Atom processor.

In a nutshell, the netbooks and nettops are basically designed for Internet content consumption, that's it. A typical Intel Atom netbook includes the N270 Atom processor at 1.6GHz together with the Mobile Intel 945GSE Express chipset, a 7"-10" screen, 802.11b/g WLAN, a mini keyboard, 400MHz or 566MHz memory, 256-512Mb of RAM, 2-4GB of flash based storage and a lightweight Operating System such as Linux or MS XP Home. Estimated starting price for netbooks are around USD250 or RM900 and above.

With more than 10 PC manufacturers and OEM launching Atom based netbooks at the time of launched, you can now actually get an Intel Atom powered device yourself. Most recent launched are the Acer Aspire One (which is currently being used to type this news out), MSI WindPC and the Asus EeePC 901. All are priced within the affordable range of RM1300-RM1600 depending on the configuration.

If purchase a netbook, I guess the limit of variety usage is there. I'm a frequent user of photoshop, music editing, and listen to music using itunes. Therefore, I will not go for netbook. I will prefer for a laptop size 12" screen with better processing (eg. C2D or Turion processor) rather than netbook and of course the price definetely more expensive compare to netbook.

Maybe if you had a desktop at home and feel having a laptop for net surfing at outside, (eg. Starbucks, library, college and etc.) you may think of purchase one. All is depends on your need.

More people in the database, people willing to pay for advertising. Why must the database had to be so large? How much the advertiser pay? Can really advertising earn?

If you refer to Lowyat advertising page or Malaysiakini advertising, you will realize the earning prospect. Eg, Malaysiakini site, each banner is cost about from RM50 to RM500.

Note, the cost is not per month, the advertising fees RM500 is per day. Minimum subscription is 7 days which equals to RM3500 per week. Didn’t count others column yet. Therefore, imagine how much did Malaysiakini earn only on advertising. I guess this is one of the answer. Database.

Work work work. All is about work. No matter how hard you work, it will never end and will never enough. Every morning, the alarm ring and we have to push our self out from bed. Try to motivate our self by telling today will be a great day. In the moment leaving the house, we have to face a distance to work. Some might stuck in heavy traffic jam. Telling our self, after this jam, we will reach office.

The moment we step in the office, all we see is our small cubicle. God bless we had a cubicle because some might don't have one or need to share cubicle. With a smiling face, we will start our work. Turning on the computer, check some emails and start to read some complain from superior. New rules had been set, new policies had implement, new projects had come yet no new benefits arrived.

Emails come from superior, escalating this and that. During meeting, escalating this and that. Yelling if don't like, get out from this company. Well, telling our self again, maybe the superior had a bad night yesterday. If the superior is a lady, she might having period but if the superior is a guy, his wife might having period.

Back to cubicle, work non stop plus OT, OT, OT. If don't work, there is others willing to take up your job. More, receive complain from client. Well, might be the same reason as superior facing.... period case. It's end of the month, salary still not yet in. Telling our self maybe the financial department facing some document issue. After few days, notice the OT was not calculate. Proceed to claim, have to fill in forms again, then email this, CC that, BCC that. Then wait for few working days and bla bla bla.

Finish work and heading back to home. Take a bath and ready to sleep. There we call it a day. Thinking this had end but actually the same things will happen again next day. Life is just as simple as that because we were working men.

When the MNC company VSS employee, the person might get VSS or maybe he did not get increment or bonus. Then the person will start to blame the company. Telling their friend this MNC company is not good and etc. End up many may not dare to join this MNC company. However, they are still people will join. They will people stay there, they will be people success and climb up to manager position.

No matter a person working office, factory, shop, doing own business, insurans, direct sales and etc. If the person really committed and did all his best, he can success. For me, whatever a person do in his life, from carrier, health, financial, friends and family. If he always did his best and committed, he will success.

What can a degree do?

Jobless degree were something very common nowadays in our country. Who can guarantee that a fresh graduate are able to find a good job? Define good job. Is it the job with RM2.5k and additional allowance? Well RM2.5k per month is enough for a person who is single and no commitment. However, how about car, house, handphone, food, bills, PTPTN, family, entertaiment, life partner and etc.

Below is the statistic of unemployed degree graduated on 2006.

Can you really imagine as year 2006, our economy is still consider good enough. Yet this year 2008, inflation had increase and economy started to drop. More, conjunction to petrol price increase, a lot of items price are start increasing as well especially food yet the salary is not increase. What will really happens to those just graduate with a degree.

What really cause this to happen? Perhaps we can take a look at some contributing factors:
1. Economy
The changing of the economic structure and landscape is a probable cause for the rise in the unemployment.
2. Quality of education
It seems that every year the country produces more and more brilliant students. This is evident with the increasing number of straight A students in SPM. It is also easier to find degree holders with first class honors.
3. Choosy job seekers
Nowadays, candidates are expecting job offer to come with a package – a good pay, convenient working location, no shift, no work beyond 6pm and so on, with everything handed in a silver platter.
4. Lack of guidance
Blaming the graduates themselves for the whole predicament is not entirely right either. There are products of a flawed system. Majority of them are oblivious to the expectation from them in the employment market. Upon graduation, they become babies again, not ready to face the real world.
5. Choosy employers
There is no need for long explanation here.

Nowadays, degree holder is just a basic line. A basic level that most young generation obtain. Instead of looking straight, think in the box and see one side. Why not we start to look wide, think out of box and see the other side.

Anything that you face, bravely and face it with different method. There are degree holder who work as insurance agent, sales man, doing own business and etc. Some even sell noodles at hawker stall but who knows, they might earn more than a degree holder that work in an office. Jobless is not an dead end.

Black is a very peace color. I love black a lot as it not just save energy but it does sooth my eyes. I can't even sleep with light turn on. Seriously this is awesome. It was so funny that you can't resist not to laugh.

X-Man was a popular South Korean game show on SBS. It was hosted by Yu Jae-seokKang Ho-dong, Kim Jae-dong, Gong Hyung-jin, Park Kyung-lim, and Lee Hyuk-jae, although only the first two were on the program since its inception. (MC Yoo/MC유),

X-Man contained main games and mini-games, all referred to as "Missions". Eventually, missions were reduced due to the addition of a "Couple Game" that took up 3/4 of an episode.

This Japanese comedian Sumitani Masaki, otherwise known as Hard Gay or Razor Ramon HG participate in this "Gaki no tsukai, one of a series of 笑ってはいけないハイスクール(Waratte-ha-ikenai-high-school)".

Razor Ramon HG is a character made by Sumitani Masaki in 2002, although he became popular in 2005 after being featured on national television. Most fans call him Hard Gay or just HG, and know him for his Village People-styled clothing, hip-thrusting and grinding. He also has a trademark yell, "FOOOOOO!" While he may look obscene to some, HG's act is all about helping the public. For example, there was an acoustic street performer. Nobody was really listening to him, so HG started running around and yelling "FOOO!" and what good music it was and did several hip-thrusts. Needless to say, it didn't get the performer much of an audience...but it produced tons of laughs from audiences at home. His acts have begun to affect pop culture, with characters from dramas occasionally shouting "FOOO!" when they are excited. If you're watching Japanese television and hear Ricky Martin's "Livin La Vida Loca" (HG's theme), you know Hard Gay can't be far.

Unlike his extroverted character, Sumitani Masaki is quite the introvert. He's very shy and actually quite straight. You'd be hard-pressed to find somebody who can sit through a clip of HG's acts and not laugh. Even his act is gayness, but it doesn't mean he is a gay. He once been caught having date with Anne Suzuki (a swimsuit model, once act in Hong Kong movie Initial D with Jay Chou as Natsuki Mogi). Gay is an adjective meaning "carefree", "happy", or "bright and showy". Therefore he is a comedian who entertaining and helping people. He is also a regular perform wrestler in some Japanese wrestling show. Well, I'm a fan of Hard Gay. "FOOOOOO!"
