Taiping trip

Taiping is about 1.5 hours drive from Penang Island. So it quite a near place for a short getaway. Not much there but for a leisure trip, we spend 1 night there.

1st thing after we arrive, hotel check-in. Then we go for 1st place which is the Antong Coffee factory since 1933. Location: https://goo.gl/maps/rd3A2owWc5E2. Over here you can have free coffee testing. Next to it is the office where Sun Yat Sen been here during the Kuomintang revolution.

We tour around this place and have some coffee. Some props for photograph.

Then we went to fill up our tummy at Larut Matang Hawker Centre. Location: https://goo.gl/maps/uXkobGXsLys. Here we try the ice mountain, char koey teow, 

With tummy recharge, we went to the Taiping lake. There we can easily spend few hours but because it is quite late, so we just walk on the side near to the Taiping Zoo as we are waiting for the night safari which start at 8pm.

The Night Safari tour basically hop on a tram and the driver will drive 1 round of the Zoo and perform introduction. At night, we can see nocturnal animals which are active at night. We spend about 2 hours here. Tummy is drumming again. After the tour we head to Siang Malam hawker centre. Location: https://goo.gl/maps/tvse7no73rT2. It is a night hawker centre and we try the wan tan mee and chee cheong fun.

We then head back to hotel and have a sleep. The next day, we head to Kakak Restaurant. Location: https://goo.gl/maps/5oJLpATsN2U2. This place famous for its koey teow soup and "kakak peng". Kakak peng is coffee mix with barley. The taste is good because of the creamy texture of the coffee result from the barley.
 

Then we proceed to Taiping lake again. Location: https://goo.gl/maps/U7kz5d9bszq.

We took some photo, walk around the lake and went for the paddle boat ride.


After the sweat from the paddle boat, we proceed for early dinner at the place Yut Sun. It is an over-rated restaurant and bad service. However, this is a good place for Hainanese food such as chicken chop which is halal certified. For me, I won't be coming back again because the taste is average and service are so bad but if you are seeking for halal Hainanese food, this is a place to try.



After dinner, we drive back to Penang and that's end of our journey at Taiping.

Handmade Japanese Shoji lamp

I browse through the internet and found a website name instructable.com. I found a lamp that pretty nice. It use Japanese shoji style to create a DIY lamp. So I try to make on my self too. I use tracing paper, bamboo satay stick, some electronic equipment. The wood I do not know for what purpose, I just take it picture for fun. Then I start with measuring the stick. I align it this way so that it will had rectangular shape and not square. Then I measure the stick for the horizontal and vertical for the inside the square. I took 70% of the original length and cut it into sizes. So it will looks like this. 4 different length of stick. Then I glue the join with glue gun. I will suggest use UHU because glue gun is far too hard to control. Then I stick the frame to the tracing paper which I had cut it into sizes. It almost done with 4 angle.
